The Carlton North Wine Bar That's Redefining Classy casual

Marama Wine isn’t trying to be the fanciest bar in Carlton North. It’s not about exclusivity or ego. It’s about good wine, shared food, and a place that feels lived-in — somewhere you might come for one glass and end up staying for hours.

Marama’s wine list leans toward minimal-intervention wines from small producers — most of them local, many of them friends. You’ll see bottles from Mac Forbes, Little Rara, Dirty Black Denim and others doing great things close to home. The food is seasonal and simple, with ingredients sourced locally. Great food, with good intent. Think anchovies on toast, grilled ox tongue, roasted cauliflower, or whatever’s fresh and in the fridge that week. And every Sunday, we do a Market Set Menu, with a rolling feed of what’s good right now.

It’s a family affair

Run by cousins Tom Gunn and Grace Dowell, Marama represents everything that makes Melbourne's food and wine culture so special. It's the perfect marriage of youthful passion and sophisticated palate. After years of working in Melbourne institutions like Proud Mary and Capitano, they decided to create something of their own. The kind of place they’d want to hang out in — casual, generous, thoughtful.
